Artist's Biography - Patricia Post
Patricia Post
Patricia Post was born and raised in the Twin Cities. Earlier in her life, she focused on music for creative expression. Singing was her passion and when health problems inhibited her performance career, she looked for another creative outlet. In 1988, a friend encouraged her to try painting. During her first class, she fell in love with watercolor and showed incredible skill with the medium. Post's explanation of her talent is spiritual. "I consider my art to be an expression of God with my creativity a God-given gift. When painting, joy is associated with using these gifts. Whatever talents are given, my peace and joy comes from applying those talents."

Inspired and encouraged by various artists and her mentor, Shirle Bedient, Patricia attended many workshops. Her studies enhanced her inherent talent and Post feels contact with other artists is important. The free exhange of artistic ideas gives her energy to create and new experiences bring her new visions. This also forces her to move out of her "comfort zone to learn and progress". She fell in love with watercolor painting because "the colors mix and flow on the paper to create beautiful effects. The challenge is to control and direct these spontaneous events". When creating a new work, Post takes her subject and combines it with an abstract pattern. During the composition, she considers color, shape, line and balance. The completion of the painting is thoughtful and slow as the artist seeks to integrate the subject matter into the abstract design.

Continually exploring her art and spirituality, Patricia has created artistically challenging works based on biblical themes including the creation story from the Book of Genesis and the "I Am" statements of Jesus from the Gospel of John. Her dynamic interpretations of the natural world are an extension of this exploration.
