Artist's Biography - Jeanne Gockley
Jeanne Gockley
Ever since childhood, Jeanne Gockley has always been compelled to draw the human figure. This fascination followed the artist into adulthood when she re-discovered her passion to paint.
Born in Minnesota, Gockley attended the University of Minnesota and the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She also lived in Europe for two years where she traveled extensively in the Netherlands, France and Germany. She visited many museums where she found inspiration in the works of Picasso, Matisse and Chagall. The works Gockley appreciated and studied in museums throughout Europe and the United States profoundly influenced her painting techniques. She paints in oil and wax, applying the medium with a palette knife in order to create beautifully textures surfaces and luminescent layer of color. Her use of line boldly defines her subjects. These subjects are actually friends, friends she creates from experience and feelings, capturing the emotional essence of a moment. Gockley's originals have been exhibited in one-person and juried shows in New York, Minnesota and Ohio. Her limited edition print of "Coffee" is her first published image. |
