"Soleil Noir", also know as "the dome ring", is depicted prominently in Erte fashion drawings as early as 1917. The artist emphasized this ring in many fashion designs of the Twenties and Thirties, and its look is so distinctive that it is sometimes referred to as "the Erte ring". In his initial design for this work, Erte specified black onyx for the central cabochon, and titled the work "Soleil Noir" - black sun. The design was adapted for earrings and cufflinks also.
