(from Frederick Hart's biographical book Frederick Hart Sculptor) "After bringing his work at Washington National Cathedral to its conclusion...in 1983 he cast two figures collectively titled "Sacred Mysteries: Acts of Light". Following fast on the heels of the Cathedral works in which figures emerge from a chaotic mass of stone these figures represent an aesthetic and attitudinal change emerging now from light--and disappearing into light as well. From this point on Hart began to equate light with life and spirit thus the medium itself conveyed meaning, beyond the iconic representational or figurative aspects of his art."
